I’ve just read the first one and am off to devour the second. Despite the fact that he’s 12, Artemis Fowl is funny, smart, and encompasses all the human failings an adult story should. I especially enjoyed Butler, with his obsessive need to protect his charge and his wickedly effective and funny ways of doing it. Juliet, his sister, annoyed me but added to the overall effect of the Fowl household.

Holly Short, the fairy LEP officer kidnapped by Artemis, was far from the all-knowing fairy folk we’re used to, and in fact this story makes consistent fun of many of the old tales. Makes fun of and expands on their stories, actually, producing a new world to enjoy.

The supporting cast is generally well-rounded, if a bit stereotyped and I hope Mr. Colfer will expand on each of them. All in all, very enjoyable and I look forward to the rest of the series.

I absolutely hate Office 7!

My netbook didn’t have Office, so I bought this software, thinking it would have the old familiar tools that I have used for years without having to think about the process. NOT SO! I can’t even find half the buttons I once used, for all of the garbage drop down menus. What happened to the simple row of icons?

This is so foreign to the Word, Excel and Power Point software I have used for years that I cannot do even the most fundamental things.

I didn’t want to take a class or screw around with the software until I could figure out the new way. I have too much to do.

At this point I definitely recommend the free OpenOffice software. At least it looks more familiar.

While Failure To Launch offers all the makings of your typical Romantic Comedy, it does offer a little something extra in that the “Romeo” of the story is a middle aged man still living at home with mom and dad. And, as can be expected, Mom & Dad want him out. And how, praytell, do they expect to accomplish this goal? How else other than hire a woman to make their son fall in love and want to move out! But, as can be expected, it simply isn’t that easy. And that is where the barrel of laughs start rolling in. And you won’t stop laughing until the end.

This is not just a chick flick. This is a movie that men and women both will enjoy!
