This is what my teachers in college would pompously call “subliterature” and what can I say, even when I was picking this book from the racks of the library I was kind of feeling guilty! I’m way past the target age for it, and I usually like my litterature to be more “constructed”, but I just let myself spend a couple of hours in an incredibly easy read, letting the twilight universe catch me in it. Some of the characters are inconsistent, Edward is always so perfect and misterious and Bella is obnoxious most of the time, but there’s no better way to change your mood after a busy day at work. I cannot say why, but this story soothes me better than any long bath.
Like I said, a pure moment of guilty pleasure. Now, where is my doughnut?
Kroo Purple and Pink
I’m in love with my kindle, although like all loves we do have our differences. The transitions are way too slow (turn off, recover from screensaver, etc.)I am always left wondering whether or not the sliding of the power switch has registered as I wait for it to do something. I probably would have returned it if it happened all the time. There was also some problem with the memory card that Windows fixed, Amazon sent me an email saying my disk was full when it wasn’t even half way. I also wish Amazon would beef up their offering and they should always show original publication date, not Kindle conversion date. I don’t care when it was converted! I was already tricked into buying old books that I had read years ago. Luckily I had forgotten just enough to make them readable. One other thing, the iPad is not in competition with the Kindle, they are apples and oranges, no pun intended. I do not know why the media is insisting on comparing them. Try reading on the iPad as you sit on the terrace or on the beach. Can’t be done! It can only be used indoors, so you might as well just fire up your laptop and enjoy the much better functionality, you can then use the money you save to buy books for your Kindle at what I believe are somewhat inflated prices. Anyway, enough of the bad stuff. I live in a beach community in Southern Spain and the Kindle is perfect for me, I can sit in my favourite “Chirinquito” and read my morning paper while sitting in the sun and then pick and choose what book I want to read. I normally have about five books going at once as I alternate between genres. Picking up new books, newspapers and magazines on the fly, reading the first few pages of any book before buying… Life doesn’t get much better than this.
